SOC 404: Community & Civic Internship Practicum

Sociology students in training to help audit companies with US Dept. of Labor's OFCCP Compliance Officers

Offered winter quarter, SOC 404 is designed to combine experiential learning in the workplace with critical reflection about practical and theoretical issues of work and organizations. Each student will participate in an internship in a local agency or organization. Students can come in with an internship already in place, or can apply through Sociology Advising to intern at specialized internships when available, such as US Department of Labor's Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP), Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), Housing and Urban Development (HUD) among others.

This practicum is designed to combine experiential learning in the workplace with critical reflection about practical and theoretical issues of work and organizations. As part of this practicum, each student will attend a 2-hour seminar each week in addition to participating in their internship at a local agency or organization for a minimum of 3 hours/week. Students also examine their experiences with respect to theory and research through informal and formal writing.  This is a "W" Course.

Students can come in with an internship already in hand, or can apply to specialized internships through the Sociology Department when available.

No application necessary to register, though students will need an internship in order to participate in this course. For more information, go to:
