School Enrollment and HIV/AIDS in Rural Malawi: The Role of Knowledge and Risk Perceptions
This presentation summarizes findings from Grant's dissertation, "Education, HIV Risk Perceptions, and Adolescent Sexual Behavior in Rural Malawi". Drawing on both quantitative and qualitative evidence from rural Malawi, she analyses how families assess their risk of HIV/AIDS and translate these perceptions into other domains of life, in particular decisions regarding children's school participation.
