Gary Hamiltin (Sociology and Jackson School of International Studies, UW)
Global Commodity Chains, Market Makers, and the Rise of Demand-Responsive Economies

Gary Hamilton is a professor of Sociology at the University of Washington and holds a joint appointment in the Jackson School of International Studies. His primary research interests are in economic sociology and social organization specifically in China and East and Southeast Asia. He is the recipient of many prestigious honors and awards. He received a Guggenheim Fellowship and has been a fellow at the Bellagio Study Center and The Center for Advanced Study in the Behavioral Sciences. He is the author of numerous articles and books. His articles include the award-winning paper "Market Culture and Authority: A Comparative Analysis of Management and Organization in the Far East" (with Nicole Biggart) published in the American Journal of Sociology. His most recent books include: Emergent Economies, Divergent Paths: Economic Organization and International Trade in South Korea and Taiwan (with Robert C. Feenstra) and Commerce and Capitalism in Chinese Societies. Both were published in 2006. Professor Hamilton holds a PhD in Sociology from the University of Washington.
