U.S. Government Grantors

As of October 2000 NSF requires the use of FastLane for submitting proposals.

Tips on Preparing your NSF budget for the Sociology Program:

      • Normally only 2 months of summer salary will be funded, unless there is a special case and argument for funding more. However they will permit the salary to be used at any time the PI would like.
      • There is currently no salary cap for proposals submitted to NSF.
      • Check the current maximum daily consulting rates for consultants
      • Conference travel generally will not be funded
      • Equipment generally will not be funded

As of October 2000 NIH requires training in the use of human subjects prior to awarding of funds to a PI.

As of April 1999 NIH began requiring the use of modular grant applications for grant submissions not exceeding $250,000 in direct costs per year.

NIH has a salary cap for salaries. This cap restricts the amount of direct salary that can be paid to an individual by an NIH grant, cooperative agreement, or contract. This cap is currently linked to the Executive Level I of the Federal Pay scale.
