Jennifer Davis '80: keynote speaker at AKD Awards Dinner

On Tuesday May 24, 2011, new inductees of the University of Washington chapter of Alpha Kappa Delta (AKD) were formally recognized and treated to a dinner at the UW faculty club with faculty and guests. Keynote speaker UW Sociology alum Jennifer Davis '80 spoke about how she benefitted from a BA in Sociology in her work as a public defender investigator. Read more on Davis

In April, President of Miller College David Harris '81 returned to campus to hold a career enhancement workshop.  In his workshop Harris stressed the importance of distinguishing yourself early on, which can be achieved through the development of interpersonal skills, the cultivation of relationships and, above all, personal integrity. "Integrity is everything, all or nothing" said Harris. "Never compromise your integrity and treat people with the utmost respect." Read more on Harris

We talked with Terry Hayes to learn more about her path from a Sociology undergraduate to CEO. As it became clear from our interview, Terry lives and breathes the mission of her organization. Her beliefs about her own success mirror her belief in others.  “We all build on what has come before. On December 8th, Founding Co-Director of Terawatu Dr. Tanya Pergola spoke with Kelo Kubu, Director of TEDxSoweto, via the Africa Skype Station at TEDWomen in Washington DC.  Dr. Tanya answered questions about Terrawatu's pioneering work in Africa on nurturing indigenous practices to help heal communities.
