The Department of Sociology welcomes
applications to our graduate program. We receive between 150
and 200 applications each year and usually a cohort of 15
to 18 new graduate students is admitted
Most admitted students
enter our M.A. program with the
understanding that they wish to pursue a Ph.D. If you enter
with an M.A. degree (which required a Master's thesis) in
Sociology from another university, you will be admitted as
a post-M.A. student initially. After approximately two quarters
of study in our department, you can apply for admission into
the Ph.D. program. If you enter
with an M.A. degree in a field other than Sociology, you will
most likely be admitted as a pre-M.A. student here and be
expected to complete an M.A. degree in Sociology before application
for entry into the Ph.D. program.
